UPDATE: Traffic Light System and Regattas

SIR, CRA, ORA, MRA, and SRA are committed to running events with as minimal restrictions as possible. Therefore, upon implementation of the Traffic Light System (TLS) (3rd December 2021) regatta will be limited to those with a vaccine pass, to allow for fewer restrictions at ALL traffic light levels, and a relatively “normal” regatta experience for rowers and their whānau.

Currently it is not possible to be issued a vaccine pass unless you are double vaccinated or have a medical exemption. Any spectator or participant MUST have a vaccine pass to enter the venue and therefore must be double vaccinated to attend the event. Those that are currently single vaccinated, and eligible to be double vaccinated prior to the event, will need to get their second vaccination early enough to have a vaccine pass issued prior to the event.

SIRs Covid Protection Framework (TLS) Plan is available here. The TLS allows events to take place in all colours with various restrictions.

  • “Green & Orange” scenarios are relatively normal with vaccines, with a few changes as to how participants will enter the venue, spectators will be allowed to attend, with a vaccine pass.
  • “Red”, with vaccine certificates allows for regattas to take place with similar protocols that existed under SIRs former Level 2 plan, this means no spectators in this scenario.

For Otago Championships CO’s will receive an invite to a Zoom meeting to be held on Tuesday 7th December at 7:30pm to walk you through the covid protocols and a regatta safety briefing. CO’s should make themselves and their teams familiar with the attached plan and should expect further correspondence from covid@ruataniwha.co.nz over the coming days.
Entries for Otago Championships will remain open until 10 pm Tuesday 30th November to allow for any changes, with the anticipation the South Island will remain in ORANGE until at least the 13th December, squads will also be unlocked.

As always, thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the best and safest way to continue hosting rowing regattas for our community.
